Governing Body Annual Diversity Survey Process
Purpose of the Survey
Each year, we conduct a comprehensive diversity survey of our governing body in line with NGA guidance on diversity indicators. The aim is to understand the composition of our governors and trustees and ensure representation aligns with the communities we serve.
This process follows the NGA Diversity Indicators Guide and the NGA Governing Board Diversity Indicators Form.
Survey Frequency
The diversity survey is completed annually by all governors and trustees. Responses are collected confidentially and analysed to inform
- targeted recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
- developing and adapting board practices to ensure full participation
- prioritising training and awareness-raising in identified areas
- addressing potential ‘blind spots’ through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risk
Categories Assessed
The survey covers the following diversity indicators:
- Age
- Gender
- Disability status
- Sexual orientation
- Ethnic group
- Religion or belief
- Proximity to the community served (location)
- Type of school attended between ages 11 and 16
- Highest level of education achieved
- Experience of the care system
- Eligibility for free school meals at any point during education
Why We Collect This Data
Collecting this information helps us:
- Ensure our governing body reflects the diversity of the communities we serve
- Identify gaps in representation and inform recruitment strategies
- Support inclusive governance and decision-making
- Comply with best practice guidance from the NGA
Autumn 2025 Data
We publish data on age, gender and ethnicity. All other responses are confidential but help to understand the composition of our governors and trustees and ensure representation aligns with the communities we serve. The data help inform decision-making and support ongoing efforts towards inclusive governance.
