Epworth Education Trust

Sustainability Strategy

“Doing all we can to Bee Greener”

beeThe Epworth Education Trust Climate Action plan is a working document that will be developed constantly to ensure each school can make long terms sustainable changes addressing 4 key areas to align with the Dfe’s Sustainability and Climate change strategy as well as taking us on the journey to become “Net-Zero”.

  • Decarbonisation
  • Adaption & Resilience
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate education & Green careers/skills

Aims:

By ensuring there is clear leadership for sustainability and a clear climate action plan in place, we will aim to:

  • Ensure every school has a Sustainability Lead
  • create a culture that prioritises sustainability
  • share effective practice with other education settings and develop a peer-to-peer learning network
  • use data to identify and prioritise action
  • improve energy and water efficiency
  • calculate carbon emissions and identify ways to reduce them
  • reduce operating costs
  • increase resilience and start adapting to the impacts of climate change
  • enhance biodiversity
  • help learners develop skills and knowledge which help them to contribute to sustainability and climate change in their lives and future jobs

Input:

Sustainability Leads meet on a regular basis to monitor the Sustainability Strategy and Climate Plan and to swop ideas. The Schools ensure there is regular input from the school’s pupils through eco-councils, forest schools and school councils to ensure their views and ideas are represented. Involving children will:

  • inspire their enthusiasm to help drive positive change
  • increase their practical knowledge of sustainability and climate change
  • give young people a sense of agency where anxiety stems from climate concerns
  • create a sense of pride in their education setting
  • enable them to share their knowledge and enthusiasm in their local communities
  • enable them to engage their parents, carers, and wider community in sustainability and climate change

our education and buildings are prepared for the effects of climate change
